Drs. Datar and Leong specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, also known as gum disease.

Often your periodontal needs can be managed by your general dentist. However, if you are exhibiting signs of more severe periodontal disease, your dentist will recommend periodontal treatment from a trained specialist with a greater understanding and increased level of expertise, a Periodontist such as Drs. Datar and Leong.

Periodontists specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation.

We are able to treat more problematic periodontal cases, such as those with severe gum disease or a complex medical history. Our primary goals are to treat gum disease and maintain your natural teeth.

Periodontal services available at Meridian are:

  • Non-surgical periodontal treatment, such as scaling and root planning, which has been proven to be a safe or effective way to treat early gum disease
  • Gum graft surgery, which covers exposed roots and repairs the result of gum recession. It also helps to prevent additional recession and bone loss
  • Regenerative procedures, required when the bone supporting your teeth has been destroyed due to periodontal disease and a procedure is needed to reverse some of the damage by regenerating lost bone and tissue
  • Dental crown lengthening procedure to improve a “gummy” smile because your teeth appear short
  • Periodontal pocket reduction procedures, which are aimed at gaining access to the roots of the teeth in order to remove bacteria and tartar
  • Pre-orthodontic periodontal augmentation to speed up the tooth movement and prevent gum recession

Laser Therapy and Perioscopy

Meridian is one of the only offices in the area that offers Laser Therapy and Perioscopy. Both are alternatives to traditional periodontal surgery and significantly reduce post-operative discomfort and recession.
